After years of hard work, Senator Julia Salazar and Assembly Member Gabi Romero are set to introduce the Tenant Power Act in the New York State legislature. The Tenant Power Act (TPA) would establish and fund a statewide organization representing tenants, tenant unions, and tenant organizations. It ensures a process to make it easier to organize tenant unions, it establishes enforcement mechanisms that hold landlords accountable, and it requires landlords to meet and consult with tenant unions about common concerns. The Act will build tenant power throughout the state and provide funding support that helps bring back power to the people, while fostering community and putting forth a new vision for landlord-tenant dynamics and collaboration.  Stay tuned for information on the campaign and ways to get involved!
