Two years after our learning delegation to Vienna to study social housing, which led to this powerful cover story in the NY Times Magazine, and following years of steadfast work by The Action Lab and many of our anchor partners, such as the Housing Justice For All Coalition, Urban Democracy Lab and the Center for Popular Democracy, last week Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) unveiled legislation that would reimagine housing in America, making a historic and long overdue investment in social housing. The bill would help build and preserve as many as 1.3 million homes in small towns, big cities, and rural communities; and help families everywhere find a quality, affordable place to call home.
