On August 19th, thanks to a recommendation from our dear NYU fellow Aaliyah Weathers, we took our Art of Purpose Fellows to Monuments of Solidarity by LaToya Ruby Frazier at the MoMA. We started with a midday pre-game somatics session on cultivating capacities of resilience and wonder to fuel our organizing. We discussed the contradictions of the concept of resilience under capitalism, and explored allowing for a range of our emotions, verbally and somatically, whether sadness, joy, anger or wonder. Many of our fellows expressed how impacted they were by the power of the exhibit which concretely embodied some of the themes of our political education convenings-- racial capitalism and the role of agency and solidarity.
