He/Him

Maurice Mitchell is a nationally recognized social movement strategist, a visionary leader in the Movement for Black Lives, and National Director of the Working Families Party. Born to Caribbean working-class parents, Maurice began organizing as a teenager and never stopped. At Howard University, after a classmate was killed by police, Maurice organized against police brutality and for divestment from private prisons. He went on to work for the Long Island Progressive Coalition, Citizen Action of NY, and the NY State Civic Engagement Table. Moved by the destruction of his home by Hurricane Sandy and the police killing of Mike Brown in Ferguson, Maurice relocated to Missouri. He co-founded Blackbird to provide strategic support to M4BL activists across the country and co-managed it until taking the helm of WFP in 2018.
