The Action Lab and NYU’s Urban Democracy Lab are convening organizers, scholars, tenant leaders, policymakers, and movement builders from around the world for Real Utopias: Decommodifying Housing, a three-day gathering exploring bold democratic approaches to housing justice.
The convening will examine how movements can advance housing as a public good rather than a commodity.
Discussions will explore the relationship between housing, movement power, and democracy. The gathering is anchored by a new proposal co-authored by The Action Lab’s Senior Housing Fellow, Gianpaolo Baiocchi: Decommodifying Housing: The Social Housing Development Authority (Baiocchi & Carlson, 2025).
A public forum open to all will take place on June 2 from 6:00–7:30 PM at the Jerry H. Labowitz Theatre for the Performing Arts at NYU Gallatin.
Fill out the form to RSVP and join us on June 2!
