I am a middle-aged cisgender white woman who lives in Takoma Park, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC, with my husband Paul. We are parents of two young adult sons and children of aging parents for whom we’re caring long distance. As the COO & Chief of Staff at the National Women’s Law Center, Board Chair of ProInspire (a nonprofit that designs and delivers programs and resources to help social sector leaders build the competencies, confidence, and connections to accelerate equity), an active lay leader in the United Church of Christ, and a singer and writer, I hope to use my time at The Action Lab to reflect on my activism and the roles I might play in the later stages of my life to advance gender and racial equity. Barbara A. Holmes’ new book, Crisis Contemplation: Healing the Wounded Village, is another resource I plan to use, through a blend of journaling, meditation, nature walks, and conversations with others participating in the program.
