Position Overview:
The Action Lab is seeking an experienced Communications Associate to join our team on a part-time basis. This role is crucial in enhancing our organization’s reach, impact, and engagement. The role will have a special emphasis on supporting the La Tejedora Initiative, which focuses on organizing in Puerto Rico and building connections with the Puerto Rican Diaspora. The ideal candidate will have personal experience in and ties to Puerto Rico, be fluent in Spanish, and possess a deep understanding of Puerto Rican culture and current issues. The position is currently a part-time position at the Associate level, but if the hired candidate is a good fit, pending available resources and mutual interest, could be promoted to full-time and Director within 12-18 months.
Responsibilities may include, not necessarily exhaustively:
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to amplify the mission and impact of The Action Lab.
- Manage and curate social media platforms and campaigns (including but not limited to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn) to enhance engagement, build online communities, and promote events, initiatives, and campaigns.
- Ensure consistency of content creation and sharing on all platforms per schedule to be agreed upon, to include multiple original pieces of content per week and daily engagement maintenance.
- Create compelling and shareable content, including graphics, videos, blog posts, and infographics, to convey the organization’s vision, goals, and accomplishments.
- Collaborate with team members to develop and execute successful social media campaigns, ensuring alignment with The Action Lab’s values and objectives and the particular programmatic focus of La Tejedora Initiative.
- Monitor and analyze social media metrics to track the effectiveness of campaigns and initiatives, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
- Craft and distribute press releases, media pitches, and other materials to build relationships with journalists and secure media coverage.
- Assist in managing The Action Lab’s website and ensure that all content is up-to-date and aligned with the organization’s messaging.
- Collaborate with partners, influencers, and stakeholders to expand the reach and impact of The Action Lab’s initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in Spanish is essential, along with an understanding of Puerto Rican culture and current issues.
- Excellent copywriting in English and Spanish that is engaging, consistent and correct in language usage, grammar, and tone.
- A general understanding of the social justice organizing and cultural landscape in Puerto Rico.
- A demonstrated commitment to issues aligned with The Action Lab’s mission.
- Proven experience in managing social media platforms and creating successful social media campaigns.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create engaging and impactful content.
- Strong understanding of social media analytics and the ability to use data to refine communication strategies.
- Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and video editing software is a plus.
- Personal experience or background in Puerto Rico is preferred.
- Passion for social justice, equity, and community empowerment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a remote work environment.
- Prior experience in nonprofit or social justice organizations is a plus.
